With the establishment of Hindu kingdoms in South India, the south Indian school of architecture began to flourish. Temples of Kanchipuram and Mahabalipuram are fine example of it. The temples depict the finest form of art and each and every carving is done so minutely that it would amaze you again and again. The temples at Thanjavur are also the fine example of the south Indian architecture. The cholas and kingdom of vijaynagara also had major contribution in the field of architecture. In the central India the chandela rulers built the khajuraho temple which was a landmark in the field of the Indian architecture.
With the coming of Mughals, a new style of architecture began to flourish in India known as the Indo- Islamic architecture. Several monuments and general buildings were constructed on that basis. The Red Fort at Agra and the walled city of Fatehpur Sikri are among the architectural achievements of this time.

Taj Mahal was built during this Era only and it is among the seven wonders of the world. The Indo-Islamic style was neither strictly Islamic nor strictly Hindu. One of the most enduring achievements of Indian civilization is undoubtedly its architecture and the colonization period added glory to it. Several government buildings, bridges, railway stations, etc were constructed during this period and some buildings in today’s time are still in good shape and performing the official duties.
