Travelling to Agra was fun as it was my first journey to Agra and I was quite enthusiastic about it. We took a drive to Agra through the Yamuna expressway, we started around 7 a.m in the morning and reached the destination around 10:30 a.m. The roads are excellent on the Yamuna expressway and we made few stops in between to have refreshments as we didn’t carry any food. The restaurant was nice and had most of the well known outlets. The food was good and above that the toilets were clean. The restaurant’s name was highway masala. The Taj Mahal is one of those places that you “know” from photos and movies etc but when you get there it totally takes your breath away. The sheer scale of the site and the Taj itself are unbelievable. The Taj itself is beautiful, the marble work and the environment around it is just amazing. You would find many people selling antiques and souvenirs around the Taj Mahal, if you are good at bargaining then you can certainly get a good bet. If you can book a guide then it would be well and good as he would simplify the whole process. Initially we thought of taking photos by ourselves only, but as advised by our tour guide we took the services of the professional photographer and it was not so expensive. With the ticket comes a free 0.5l bottle of water and shoe covers. You have to go through a lengthy and slightly chaotic security procedure and are only allowed phone, camera, water and money. The weather was very hot and the sun was glazing down, the water that we carried was finished very quickly. We were so mesmerized by the beauty of the Taj that the external factors couldn’t hinder our joy. It took us around 1 hour to closely monitor each and every detail about the Taj and our guide was very knowledgeable, as he explained us about the history of the Taj and how it is related to the each and every building in the premises. Everything was fine expect for the fact that we owed money to our guide for battery cars and shoe covers, I found it unreasonable as everything was included in the tour, but moreover we were happy with the explanations and we decided to pay him for that.
